Regional Economic Outlook update for the MENA Region

Published on: 02-May-2017

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in cooperation with Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), held a conference on the regional economic outlook update for the Middle East and North Africa. The IMF's Head of the Middle East and North Africa gave a presentation on regional economic developments and prospects. He pointed out that the growth in MENA oil-exporting countries is expected to slow in 2017 because of the oil production cuts agreed to under the terms of the recent OPEC deal, in contrast, although the outlook varied across individual countries, overall growth in the non-oil sector is expected to accelerate in 2017 as the pace of fiscal consolidation eases. The oil-importing countries are expected to achieve economic growth in 2017 to 4% compared with 3.7% last year and 4.4% in 2018. The UASA’s Secretary General attended the conference.
